Jesus SavesA Poem by Rebecca L. SmithJesus saves all.
I was hitchhiking on Hallelujah Highway
When I passed a neon sign lit up to say “JESUS SAVES” So, I strolled into the local soup kitchen Pointed to the sign and asked the definition “JESUS SAVES” Said the lady holding the silver ladle She smiled at me, her eyes a bright hazel “JESUS SAVES” “Saves whom?” I asked, with an inquisitive tone “The thieves and the burglars who break into a home?” “The liars and the cheats who need forgiven the most?” “The mentally stable who were just wrongly diagnosed?” The lady simply nodded for she wholeheartedly agreed “Jesus saves all who are weary and in need.” “JESUS SAVES” “Does he save all the politicians, who take us to war overseas?” “Does he save all the drug addicts creeping in the streets?” “Does he save all sinners, no matter their shame?” “Does he save all the people, till no one remains?” “Yes!” exclaimed the lady, as she burst into laughter “Jesus saves them all! Haven’t you heard of the rapture?” “JESUS SAVES” “But not all will be raptured.” I was quick to remind “There will be some who are left here behind.” “Well, of course,” said the lady, as if I missed the joke “The child molesters and the gays are the Devil’s folk” I shuttered at the harsh comparison she had made Suddenly, the woman’s warmth had begun to fade “JESUS SAVES… the ones worth saving.” She sounded so positive, so certain, so sure “There’s just some things, even Jesus can’t cure.” “Like ignorance and hatred?” I boldly asked The woman’s head snapped up as she let out a gasp “JESUS SAVES ALL.” I stated. You cannot limit his grace “If only all Christians could understand this, the world would be a much better place.” © 2014 Rebecca L. SmithReviews
