Sleep [Lyrics]A Poem by Rebecca L. SmithThe eventual endless sleep.
This mountain town has never let you down
When you cruise its two-lane road You found your sin down at the Teardrop Inn But your room has never felt so cold Sleep, just a little longer Sleep, get a little stronger, just sleep And come the morning you can try again Sleep, just sleep I know your burden has been heavy I know your back has been weak I’ve heard you struggle for a gasp of air Just to find the breath to speak I’ve watched you stand down by the water But never have the faith to jump in You only have to dunk your head under Then God will teach you how to swim Oh, but you just sleep Doze a little longer, sleep Hoping to get stronger As you close your eyes You start to realize The morning may not come again Sleep, just sleep Friends and family gather round you Their hearts are aching with grief No one can explain the unbearable pain When death comes in the night like a thief And they just watch you, sleep No more to wander, sleep Nothing left to conquer, just sleep An endless night with no chance to know What may have been Just… sleep © 2014 Rebecca L.
