Descent

Descent

A Poem by Rebecca Buller
"

You have to go on and be crazy. Craziness is like heaven. ~ Jimi Hendrix

"

It’s nice-come take a drive with me

And we’ll park at the edge of sanity

I have a bottle of uncorked melancholy

Want a sip? Maybe two or three

Maybe you'd like to join me

As I tumble into crazy

Down,

        Down,

                Down

I step towards the ledge for a little look see

And pull the cork from the bottle of melancholy

It’s a bitter wine made with bitter berries

One is misery

The other is…maybe you can tell me

I tumble off the ledge and into crazy

Down,

        Down,

                Down

Maybe you'd like to join me

You are welcome...:)...............
I think I'll just take a pass on that invitation, Rebecca. Deep depressions can indeed end in insanity. Your style effectively enhances your meaning. The descent of "Down" definiitely mirrors the effect of depressed mind sinking lower and lower until finally it becomes crazed.

How about those sunny beaches? Deserts can be a real drag. (I know this is just your muse talking, just pulling your leg.) You have written a very strong poem.

Thank you so much for the review, Joyce! And I agree, deserts are most definitely a drag:)
Sometimes you just need to let the crazy out to play, you know? Reminds me of a quote I love:

"She's mad but she's magic. There's no lie in her fire." - Charles Buckowski.

A good blend of angst and articulated acceptance. Well done!

Thank you very much, GF! I'm glad you enjoyed it
I can relate to these dark and humorous words -
Sometimes reality can be a little too much to deal with - crazy could be nice for at least a little while. You and Jimi Hendrix might be on to something...
Pass that bottle of melancholy
Cheers! :) Julie

Ah you're brilliant, what a play with words, and emotions, wrapped into one delicious piece of art.

It has darkness it has humor, it has self-spot, it has that magical touch only you can write with, Rebecca.

Beautiful piece.
I enjoyed this very much.

Oh wow, you actually used one of my favourite Jim lyrics/quotes here...I always loved the words to Midnight Drive. And why am I not surprised to see the word "hot" in a piece about him, whatever the context may be? ;P Very cool piece :)

This reminded me of another quote, from William Blake: The road to excess leads to the palace of wisdom. This one can be read in all kinds of different ways. I get the impression that the tongue-in-cheek approach is the way to go, but it does have a touch of darkness to it. Mind you, I've had a habit of misinterpreting light-hearted pieces as dark ones so I think that's just me haha :P I think we all need a pilgrimage to crazyland on occasion. Well done Rebecca :)
