Horse That RidesA Poem by MatthewDon't let them use you.
The light has burned out
Flashed and shattered, I can see it’s now torn Crashed down, and failed to learn Glass broken where you step now The liquid slowly drains as you feel trapped I told you not to go, but here you are now standing in vain I told you not to shoot, but here you are now, feeling drained The feeling slowly leaves, making you seem so obscene Help me understand why when we fly, we can never get down I promise I meant to leave, but I just couldn’t I grip the pillow feeling like I’m falling down To a place where the climb outweighs the fall I can’t not help but see myself in this horrid light Maybe I’ll leave one day, but until then I’ll just stay I’ll picture what I could have had I’d ask if you could help me up, but I think you’re better laying down You took the trip until you forgot where you belonged The horse takes you for a ride and you don’t mind I’m left with you here dying, choking in your own tongue Maybe I should have stayed, but I think I feel better in this place The horse it stares at me and I think it knows Sometimes the ride outweighs the destination Sometimes you don’t use the horse Sometimes you don’t see that fine line Sometimes the horse that rides is the horse that uses you © 2013 Matthew |
