City of the Broken

City of the Broken

A Poem by Matthew
"

No one lives here anymore.

"
Street lights filled with shame
Illuminating crimes, under a light-less sky
Justice walks away, head lowered because of the pain
The pain of never being right, of never being true

I’ll just wait here, no need to continue on into a city of darkness
I’ll just watch from a distance, no need to risk my life in a city of evil
You go on ahead, I’ll be waiting for when you die a little on the inside
You go on ahead, I’ll be waiting for when a lie finally breaks you

All signs point up, but all eyes remain on the ground
This broken city just isn’t what it use to be
It was taken to the back of a cold, heartless basement
It was shot in the head, put out of it’s dying misery

The lifeless screams of a lively city filled with filth
Still echo in my head, presenting themselves to me in a dream
She is never coming back, eaten whole in the city of demons
She is never coming back, my eyes remain on the ground

I’ll just wait here, they’re crazy
This city is filled with dreams
Dreams of the broken, dreams of the hopeless
Dreams meant to destroy
Dreams meant to convey a message of sorrow
Dreams that echo through the head of tomorrow’s timeless death

This city was built for the hopeless
This city was meant for the guiltless
This city is becoming a distant memory
This city is becoming a distant dream
This city is just a dark travesty
This city is dead, and so are we
