So Here I Sit

So Here I Sit

A Poem by Beaner166

Do you know what you are getting yourself into?
It wasn't love at first site.
But you were my first love.
Do you know what you are getting yourself into?

Young and dumb.
As I came to know you,
I came to love your imperfections.
Young and dumb.

I came to love you.
The awkward way you carry yourself around others.
The way you smile when you're genuinely happy
I came to love you.

You were damaged, like me.
Pained by family.
Seeking refuge in my embrace.
You were damaged, like me.

I needed you, and you needed me.
We were an oasis from each others pain.
Nothing else mattered but you and me.
I needed you, and you needed me.

Your mother hated me.
Driving us apart,
To take back control.
Your mother hated me.

Determined, she left me with no choice.
Loose you but have you near,
Or send you so far you'd be out of reach forever.
Determined, she left me with no choice.

I wanted what was best for you.
I gave up our love to keep you close.
The pain of my choice lives today.
I wanted what was best for you.

Life is never what we imagine.
Choices made whether with good intent or not,
Echo far into our future.
Life is never what we imagine.

Today her life if happy.
Married and starting a family.
A man who can give her what I could not.
Today her life if happy.

Pain for one becomes happiness for another.
I set her free and she did not come back.
The life she has is worth the pain.
Pain for one becomes happiness for another.

Happiness is a gift only pain can bestow.
I let her go and she found happiness away from me.
A gift I am happy to pay for.
Happiness is a gift only pain can bestow.

So here I sit.
Watching from afar,
Watching her be who I knew she could be.
So here I sit.
