My Dying Breath...

My Dying Breath...

A Poem by Mirko Galušić
"

This is a piece that was developed for a long time, started last year, and finished Last week...

"

As she walked in,

Unnoticed,

She revealed her presence,

The presence yet unknown to me,

Cold and striking,

Like an arrow of pure frost,

Penetrating my heart,

And freezing it still,

Putting an end to my existence.

With every single step she took,

I felt colder,

And more absent from this world,

Dragged into the realm of her own.

Terrified I was

As it started pulling,

As it fed,

Feasting upon the last bit of energy

Left in this worn-out body of mine.

First, she took my legs,

The things which carried me

Trough the hardships of life.

I didn’t feel anything,

Struck by her piercing gaze,

Which ensured me

That I didn’t need them anymore.

And true it was,

Because the path which was mine to go,

Had no ground or road,

No grass or rock,

No holes nor thorns.

And she grew in size,

Becoming omnipresent,

Engulfing me in her flames,

Flames which did not hurt.

Then she took my arms,

The things that have built my life,

The arches of everything I made and accomplished,

In this short lived life of mine.

And I felt it felt strangely right,

As if the future which awaits me

Asks of me not to work,

For my work has been done, and undone.

Everything that I've made,

I will not need,

And will leave it all behind,

For the realm which I am dragged in,

Has no use of material things.

Slowly, I was becoming more of an apparition,

Than a humanly figure I used to be,

Floating in the never ending rivers,

Which seemed to twist to eternity.

Finally, she approached me once more,

And asked of me to give away my heart.

My heart…

The thing which was the only thing

I really feared loosing,

Because deep inside of it,

There was a name,

Carved into it long ago.

Your name…

I remembered your face,

Your eyes,

Your voice,

Your hair…

In this grim moment I remembered,

All of the moments which we spent together,

All the moments that I used to look at you,

All your small glances which met mine,

That you tried to make look like an accident…

The name disperses alongside my heart,

And I speak…

I call your name one last time,

With all of the energy which was left inside me…

I call for you, cause I want you to be

The only thing that I will always remember,

As all of my memories slowly fade away,

Carried off by the waters which my soul slowly sailed…

You are far away…

You probably don’t remember me at all.

But I make one last wish…

Every time you approach a river,

May the silent voice of nature

Gently whisper into your ear

With the calm flap of wings,

With the soothing splashes of water,

With the lively buzz of insects...

May it carry my call

My last, and my dying breath,

Which slowly leaves from my tired mouth

As a murmur into the void of death...

Let me say, that was probably the most powerful thing I've ever read. You are honestly amazing. I say that because it's true. Keep on writing. For the world would be nothing without your writing to read.
