Taking things for Granted

Taking things for Granted

A Poem by Richard B. Berry
"

some thoughts as the biological father of my stepson appears out of nowhere after eight years and tries to call himself...... Daddy ....some f*****g nerve.

"

Forgotten, so I thought

I've grown complacent

somewhere it was lurking

waiting for me to be weak

waiting for me to be self absorbed

So much easier to go on

simply being in denial

aloof, disconnected

going through the motions

As all I am

disintegrates

For I am nothing

without you

my son

The pain is evident even without the disclaimer. As someone else said "hang on". Things change as you and your children grow older. Children realize who was really there for them when they needed it and will let you know.

This is a touching poem, with or without the intro, but put into context I have to say your step-son is lucky to have you in his life.

Great poem. Sad, yet (as I know myself) true. I feel for you. Hang in there.
