Words

Words

A Chapter by Richard B. Berry

How fascinating it is

 Mere words

Uttered with passion

 People inspired

To be more than they are

This charisma

A rare gift from the gods

 Sometimes

 For there are times

Great evil

Uttered to foment war

 For conquest

For power

 For hate

The sound of boots pounding

 Echoes through eternity

 2/4 time in steady rhythm

 Like a heartbeat

 Thump-thump, thump-thump

 The most basic rhythm

 Is of life and death

 Words, inspired words

 Lead us to butchery

 To feed meat eating birds

 To fertilize the soil

With the blood of the duped

 How we never learn

Though it is a constant lesson

 Often the message of peace

Is against a storm of bullets

The Sermon on the Mount

 Led to the crucifix

Malcolm X found real Islam

Then it bled from his chest

 Evil cannot handle the truth

 It cannot handle love

It cannot handle being told it is wrong

Words, powerful words

 Spark the imagination

So we work on our dreams

Something made us believe

 It is like magic

 It is charisma
