Cross to Bear

Cross to Bear

A Chapter by Richard B. Berry

Soul in conflict, facts don’t align

Stuck in a theocratic paradigm

Looking for reason, looking for a sign

Must faith be so completely blind?

Dogmatic illusions stifle the mind

Sorry for being out of line

You accuse me of thought crimes

Know my place for the end times

For me the question is not resolved

So my faith has to evolve

Where confusion and certainty revolve

Upon death the equation is solved

Some will not let their knowledge grow

Putting a limit to what they know

Happy to let their ignorance show

Will they reap what they sow?

Heresies, hypocrisies

Fantasies, Pharisees

Get down on your knees

Or God won’t be pleased

Not everything can be expressed in a book

Open your mind, take a look

An ancient text cannot show

Everything we’ve come to know

Pearls of wisdom in our life

Negotiating wrong from right

Not the sum of all we are

Those answers are in the stars

Why put limits on the imagination?

Submitting to intellectual castration

Loving God is not conformity

To manmade religiosity

No need to be slave

To how you express faith

Your faith belongs to you

Not the guy in the next pew

Perpetrating the perfect life

Even as he beats his wife

Don’t fall for the mind control

Take ownership of your soul

Forgive me while I go there

Bretheren, it is your cross to bear
