I Now Stand

I Now Stand

A Poem by Amberway

Did our forefathers reap for the soil of this land?

A changed society of where I now stand?

Did they go through trials and tribulations all for nothing?

Just hoping to one day amount to something?

No, Everyday was a struggle for reason.

Surviving through each and every season.

Building and fighting for such a place,

but now some down it with disgrace.

Crowning a memory with so much pride.

Standing then and now by each others side

Created a home for us to grow.

To learn more about our past and to know,

It started with a dream and journey to a new land,

In a same, but yet changed society, in where I now stand.

The words just seem to mesh together perfectly in this poem and I love the history it builds up through to the final line and present day. Didn't spot any typos or anything of the like. I sometimes wonder myself what it would be like to take someone from when this country was first starting out and show them the america that we know today and see if they'd be happy or even satisfied with how it is. Like this piece I think watching some of the people who live here "down it with disgrace" would make them numb with rage or even tears.
All in all it was a very thought provoking read, thank you.
