The Beginning

            Can I ask you a favor? He nods and I continue. Give me hope in silence.

            It truly was a strange question to ask, but I asked nevertheless as it was what I wanted. I didn’t want complete absence of sound -- no, I wanted to avoid any unwanted discussions, I wanted to feign ignorance. It was what I longed for. I stood still while we stared at each other; his confused eyes trailed the contours of my face before he finally understood and acquiesced to my request.
