The Gray WitchA Poem by R.Guy BehringerA childhood adventureMe and Thee plus a dragon named Basil We stormed the gates of the gray witch’s castle She was blind in one eye couldn’t see out the other Brave Bazzy roared He thought she looked like Mother We chased the foul woman Down damp dark halls Her fingernails sparking While dragging stone walls We climbed the great turret Wet stone stairs into the black We just missed the gray hag She turned into a bat! No fair, Mom! We cried out to the night Basil howled at the moon I wish that we could fly But we’re too little So me and thee our puppy in tow Headed off to our cript four coffins in a row Mom and Dad Me and Thee And a pallet for our puppy named Basil© 2017 R.Guy Behringer |
