The Object of your Affection

The Object of your Affection

A Poem by Glee

We all need something we can hold onto

Something we can cherish

Treasure

Love more than ourselves

But is it their beauty

Or their innocence

Their vigor

Or their smile

Their livelihood

Or their affection

That attracts us so much

For some

It’s a lover

For others

It’s a friend

For others

It’s a child

For others

It’s a relation

While for others

It’s a pet

But others

Will settle for a furry teddy bare

Why not?

Look at them

Beautiful

Innocent

Vibrant

Charming

Appreciate them

Stroke them

Cradle them

Sooth them

Don’t they all make life worth while!

Don’t they just make it all worth while!

They’re the object of your affection

For from them you will demand nothing more in return

Other than that they be there

But when you can look out as far as the eye can see

When you take a glimpse as far as your sight can reach

And you see nothing

And you feel nothing

There is not a person in sight

There is not a sole in sight

But openness

Hopelessness

Solitude

You know you lost them

Those that you hold dear

Take heart

You may not have an object of your affection

You may not even need one

Be your own object of your affection

Love yourself and you will be loved

Comfort yourself and you will be comforted

Take care of yourself and you will be taken care of

Seduce yourself and you will be seduced

Respect yourself and you will be respected

Be your own object of your affection

For that is our greatest weakness

Let it all go

The tension

The worries

The needs

The goals

Relax

And let it slip by

Take a breath

And let it flow in

You’re back at the Ocean beech

Feel the cool calm breeze blowing all over you

The ocean waves strong and firm ravage with the winds

Just let it flow

Let it flow within

It’s not your fault lonesome heart

Don’t beat yourself up

You’re not to blame

The tides of life are just putting you to the test

Testing your strength

Your resilience

Your firmness

They bring no harm

They mean no harm

Smile lonesome heart

Everything will be alright

Relax lonesome heart

No rush to run anywhere

Lonesome heart

Take a breathe

Take a sound lonesome heart

Let the life flow through you

You’ll do just fine
