Its Just a Popularity Contest

A Poem by Glee

High school
Bitter sweet high school
A miserable piece of your life you’d rather have erased
Removed from your life journal

For your girlfriend dumped you in a blink
Your friends wrote you out in a flick
Your teachers scorned you for a fool
Your bullies called you names
Made fun of you
Dumped you in the garbage bin
But its just high school

Watch it boy
What you doing boy?

Shooting up faculties?
Shooting up classrooms?
Shooting up random people?
This is not you boy

They aren’t worth it boy
You’re bigger than that
You’re better than them

This is not what papa meant for you
Think of what mama wanted for you
She wanted you to grow,
Be healthy,
Strong,
Have class,
Honor,
Integrity,
Dignity,
Pride

This is not you boy
Just let it go
Let it slip by

You’re the geek in the science class
You’re the little one in the project group
You’re the ugly one in the grade
The dork of the section
That’s the peer pressure

See them picking the little ones
The big bullies
Don’t storm in
Don’t play hero
Let it pass
Heros die young

Hottest couples on campus
Most popular crowd in school

Quarterbacks
Cheerleaders

Dummy boys
And Barbie dolls
Ten years from now
Look where they’ll be

She’ll be a cocktail waitress
He’ll be pumping gas
Struggling to cover the rent
Stuck in a two room trailer

With a cooing baby
And a pile of unpaid bills

You could be a lawyer,
A doctor,
A Pilot,
An Architect

Anything you want to be
The world is open for discovery
The sky is the limit
You could have any one you want

It’s just a popularity contest
But take it easy boy
Its not too late boy

Papa's gun isn’t the quickest way out
Mama’s pills aren’t the nicest escape route

Talk to your teachers
Be close to your peers
Pay attention to your studies

Don’t close the door now
Don’t pull the trigger
It’s never too late

hey! very great work. We feel the experience and some bad moments from the past (unpleasant age high school!). I appreciate the positivity at the end.

Painful but reality.

High school can be so difficult to overcome. But its not just high school, junior high too. And after you are done with that, college comes. And it doesn't end there, here comes work, life and I'm sad to say even here, our place of escape ... the cafe.
