War of the Words

War of the Words

A Poem by Glee

The masses gathered and waiting

The candidates prepped to their points

The arguments starting to heat up

Its just a poetry contest

Its just a power harvest

Its a battle for the seat

He who wins becomes the commander in chief

He who wins appoints he who governs

He who wins will lead men into wars

He who wins will be the symbol of a nation

But its just a poetry contest

Its a battle for human hearts

Where the war is in the words

People from the far corners of the world

I come here with humble reverence and common virtue

I call out to you now

Come out Come out

And see the injustice in this world

Come and see the state of our beloved nation

Your leaders sit with their fancy garments and precious pipes

They do not pay attention to your cries

They have no sense of what happens at the bottom of the ladder

For they dangle at the top of the food chain

They have no compassion for your lost souls

They lead you into pointless wars that do not end

They levy heavy taxes that keep on growing

They abandon you in time of disaster

And walk away in time of need

Only to come back when they have much to ask of you

Ride with me and I will bring victory

Side with me and I shall bring about change

And I promise you that tomorrow will be a day for rejoicing

It will be the day that we regain power

From the bureaucratic politicians

Hungry for power

Urging for war

Levying for taxes

Protected by their politics

We are the opposition

We are here to bring about change

We are here to listen to your cries

Think of every moment

That you lacked health insurance

That you couldn't take your child to college

That you couldn't find a job

That you couldn't cover a mortgage

That you couldn't meet your taxes

Or that you watched your child pass at the battle front

Well we are here to change all of that

We do not lobby for unnecessary bloodshed

We do not lobby for pointless wars

All we want is change

And the time for change is now

We are the incumbent

We come with honest hearts and humble reverence

We do not come to build castles in the air

The opposition talk of change

But what do they know about change

Elections are won in poetry

But offices are run in prose

Do not be deceived

For they're ever more hungry for power

Telling lies about us

And filling you with negative resentment towards your country

For us you can be sure

That we shall never abandon you

We shall always side with you as we have in the past

Why put the fate of a nation in the hands of the inexperienced

They have no idea what it takes to be leaders

Its a tough job running a nation

Its an even tougher job guarding its borders

They speak of drastic funding

But where shall the funds come from

Yes. We recognize a few loopholes in our systems

A few perks in the structures

But the kinks shall be removed

All we need is more time

And we shall do much more with our action plan

And I promise you

That tomorrow victory shall be yours

Wars are fought by men but commanded by words

Men are commanded to fight but inspired by poetry

Its just a poetry contest
