10101. A Sonnet of Three Young Pigs

10101. A Sonnet of Three Young Pigs

A Chapter by Ray Nichols
"

A narrative poem based on the fairy tale of the three little pigs.

"
In verdant fields where three young pigs did play,
With dreams of homes more sturdy than the last,
They chose their paths, each forging their own way,
While shadows lingered, darkened by the past.

The first, a swine with haste in heart and mind,
Built quick with straw, a house of flimsy grace,
He laughed and danced, a carefree life designed,
But fate, it seems, would soon disrupt his space.

The second pig, with sticks, thought he was wise,
Constructed walls that might withstand the breeze,
Yet little did he know beneath the skies,
A hungry wolf approached, intent to seize.

Then came the third, with bricks both strong and true,
A fortress built to last, while dangers grew.

The wolf, with cunning eyes and breath like fire,
Did prowl and plot to claim his porcine feast,
He huffed and puffed, his darkened heart a pyre,
The straw house fell, the first pig’s hope deceased.

“Run, brother!” cried the second, panic near,
As both took flight to seek the safest ground,
They fled to bricks, their hearts now gripped by fear,
While echoes of the wolf’s fierce growl resound.

The sturdy walls, a bastion in the night,
Withstood the wolf’s fierce breath, his rage untamed,
He huffed and puffed, yet found no way to bite,
The third pig’s home remained unscathed, unframed.

With clever traps and tricks, the wolf was thwarted,
The three stood firm, united, never parted.

In unity, they found their strength anew,
Together forged, they faced the darkened threat,
With laughter shared, their bond forever grew,
In friendship’s glow, they’d never feel regret.

So let this tale of three brave pigs remind,
That strength in numbers can outlast despair,
Through trials faced, the heart and soul aligned,
In love and courage, we shall always dare.

Thus ends the tale of bricks, of straw, and sticks,
A lesson learned, ‘gainst fate’s relentless tricks.
