Continental Drift

Continental Drift

A Poem by ravincause
"

The teachings of the four directions, although North American today, comes out of the mariners use of the compass. In North America, people witnessed the sun and the moon, and direction was a circle.

"
Enter in the east.
The place of new learning.
Bonsai commitment
Ball my roots into submission.
Yellow like the dawn, feast
Upon my hungry yearning.
Samurai equipment
Show me your position.
So I bow to you at least
And at your death am burning
In the pyre of your souls shipment
To the next world goes all acquisition.

In smoke.

Enter the south.
The place of transformation.
Rhythms so tonal and deep
That I quiver with release
Over and over and over.
I taste with my mouth
Salty and hot this relation
I taste with my roots to keep
Me grounded in my ease
And keep you under cover
Your hidden wealth
Exploited on each occasion
Stolen like the life we reap
And yet you still tease
And offer the rhythms, above her

In smoke.

Enter the west
The place of reclaiming
That which has gone before
Ancient waters flow
The way home for us.
Hear our request
For ancient wisdom naming
How do we know which door
Can your signs now show
Or only repeat what was?
I feel you best
When your spirits not maiming
But whole, when you soar
Spirit bird, when you know
Your feathers touch me thus,

In smoke.

Enter the North
Place of contemplation and stone.
All that we have and all that we hold
Accumulates here, waiting
To be sewn in the spring.
Long dark winter stretches forth
What are we here, Just what we own?
Think, examine, What have we been told?
What traps are we baiting?
Keeps us ever searching ?
War histories of course
Sing with another tone,
But history’s not dating
Far back enough for what you bring,

In smoke.

Beautiful writing with meaning, giving respect to all directions. I like the idea of the directions as a circle, I need to ponder on this idea more, it is a different way of thinking than I am used to.
