Apple blossoms burst first buds and maple are in first leaf but the syrup harvest was great this year....expecting lilac soon, my second favorite spring smell next to balsam poplar bud.... first squirrels seen on the property in twenty years, also a chipmunk spotted eating apples on the porch....mosquitoes are intense and rhubarb is high....last years carrots are still good albeit less sweet than the early winter digs, but still fresh and juicy... fiddleheads are delicious this year and there is lots of yellowdoc I should harvest....comfrey is back a lush in all the rain...No sign of the elk, would love to see their calf as they honey-mooned here at the farm last fall.... getting beds ready for planting, feels right to plant four times as much as usual this year, especially winter crops.... ground is still too cold to plant even though the Roman calendar is ordering everyone to do their planting this weekend... been lots of rain, but cold, even had an afternoon fire this week and most evenings... glad I got an extra few cords of wood in last year... really should cut the grass, sheep would be nice for that.
