A Lover's Darkened NighA Poem by RavenwingA poem/lyrics I wrote when my husband and I were apart for a little while. 'Tis dedicated to him and the Lord.Verse 1 Feels very sullen, Without a hand to hold, Without warmth’s embrace, Without my lover’s trace, But my frown is not forever, My smile is not far away, For you see a greater Light waits, Across this sea of gray, Refrain: Though You have blessed me with another, Though my heart, at times, thunder Your arms around me still provide, Despite my watery eye, I know Your peace... That calms this lover’s sigh, Verse 2 I miss his sweet tone, Tweeting in my ear, Laughing his lungs, expand, I miss even his ivory tear, But he is not my salvation, He is not my strength, For Your arms, oh Lord, Lift me high above the dank, *Repeat Refrain* Bridge: I know I am nowhere near perfect, I know only Your fires can purge, This soul of dirt and grim, This soul of passion, sublime, For You are the Bridegroom first, And I, with all believers, Your Bride, Broken, but redeemed by Your blood, Your Spirit washing away our mud.... Yet still, because of my finite heart, I ache with dislike of this apart, From my one’s human soul, From my one’s loving hold, *Repeat Refrain* Ending: I know Your peace, That calms this lover’s sigh, I know Your peace... My Lord of life... My Light to the darkened nigh. © 2014 Ravenwing |
