saved myself

saved myself

A Poem by linda m. crate
"

Betrayal by your enemies is bad, but by your friends it's even worse.

"
willows eyes
tears cried
stain the pavement
i cannot be more than i
expect of me;
surrender and be witness
of the rain,
pearls of heaven
dance among your heart as
readily as dew;
you'd never admit
defeat, throw
yourself into whimsy and song
at the first sign of despair "
i'm just a stone's throw away,
skipping across the water
falling beneath the currents of
your uncertainty and distance
who will carry me?
must i always stand on my own,
never tethered by the wings
of the sea;
the ocean grants me solace i cannot
find in your arms,
but you deny truth
and spoon feed me lies you think
i want to hear "
all virtues lost, did you
think you'd be saved?
the glass
you stare into is cracked,
sidewalk cracks
you stepped into mirror the reflection
of what you now are;
devoid of thought
you turn stones
of dreams we once shared,
thinking they may be good enough to pursue;
but you won't be saved
none will be "
i've already made it to my promised land,
and i left you in the rivers of dust
where you pursued fame and glory and fortune,
and found instead a husband.
