within this flesh

delve into my innermost
tell me what you find
i lost myself within myself
can you see
the footprints left behind
all i have to trace my existence
the darkness falls
leaving me in my own
where i shudder and become
what they seek in me

i cannot return
the road is long and i am weak
i cannot turn back
when i can hear my voice in the distance
filling the tainted silence
shattering the walls

as i run i leave it behind
i will never find my way out
bound by flesh i bleed and feel
only to be lost within my cage

'Imprisoned in the flesh' I think, is the term. We all feel this way sometimes, as if we're so restricted and controlled by our own physical infirmities or limitations. Then, of course, the search for what we really are. Does the answer lie deep down in the labyrinth of the flesh, or is there a spiritual answer; the soul?
