Transitory

Transitory

A Poem by ...

Every day I try and recapture
What we were and why
But the truth of who we are
Is more ensconced than the past
I burrow down deep
To try and recall it
But its lost to me
Not buried or shelved
But removed without remnant
I can catalogue the changes
The moments that broke it
The pieces numerous and minute
Easily carried away over time
Until the space it once occupied
Is devoid of its host
Save for the memory
Of what should have remained
The actuality of us is this;
Sometimes meant to be
Is a measured truth
And forever is finite
Always isn't perpetual
And eternity starts and ends
Within a single lifetime
We try and hold on
But sometimes we need to be strong enough
To just let go

I think you overuse 'but' and 'and' to the degree where it's noticeable enough to take away from the poem - also if you structured this better it would fly. The content is gorgeous but sadly let down by the layout.
Like a diamond necklace about a pig's neck.
Your words are too good to be mis-shapen so by the layout.

I loved this. Your writing is superb. Many truths hidden in such a small poem... The last bit there with the "eternity starts and ends" line. Great from start to finish, glad I came across your writing. Thanks for sharing!
