She was a beautiful mess
Too many pieces lost to be whole But he saw her the way she couldn't She was too strong to be weak But her weakness crippled her in isolation She could not give in or just let go So he took her as she was A wreck cloaked in pretense Carnage manifest He knew her pain by heart And conceded her mistakes She could not smile at herself Or lie enough to believe she mattered So she professed to be a stranger But he knew the verity of her existence As her world rocked the ground gave way Her scars burned red beneath her facade Fragmented and separated Bloodied and forsaken She hid behind her prevarication While he stood sentinel To save her from her own destruction And slowly yet inexorably He became a part of her The constituency she depended on Until he was the fragment within her That she knew without ambivalence She could never divest For without him She would perpetually be splintered Never more than a beautiful mess © 2017 ... |
