My own mistake

My own mistake

A Poem by ...

I set the limits
Lay down the conditions
On which we existed
Making you promise not to change
The way you look at me
Unknowingly I broke down the walls
Shifting the boundaries
Until I was too deep in
And you were standing on the border
I could not reach you
Could not turn back
So I forged a path away from your presence
Broken and bruised
In a land forbidden to myself
I stumble over my own edicts
I cannot force you to follow
So I force myself to pretend
That these wounds are not fatal
Blindly my feet carry me forward
Across a battlefield I promised I would return to
As darkness falls I wonder
If I'll ever reach the end
Of this unwelcome longing
And find you again
