Waiting For My Warrior King

Waiting For My Warrior King

A Poem by Raven Pegasus

I stand on this sandy shore
And I wait on sands warmed
By the sun's beautiful rays.

I stand and I wait on this shore
For my warrior king
To return to me.

I watch the changing hues
Of night and I am reminded of
His passionate promises of love.

I stand and I wait on this shore
For my warrior king
To return to me.

I wrap my arms around myself
And I remember the warmth
Of his strong embrace.

I stand and I wait on this shore
For my warrior king
To return to me.

I wonder, does Morrigan
Watch over us,
Does she protect him for me.

I stand and I wait on this shore
For my warrior king
To return to me.

Morrigan, oh Morrigan
I implore thee to keep him safe.
Send your raven to protect him.

I stand and I wait on this shore
For my warrior king
To return to me.

I watch for the ship that
Will carry my warrior king
To me once again.

I stand and I wait on this shore
For my warrior king
To return to me.

When he returns to me
My warrior king will
Kiss this lover once again.

I stand on this sun warmed
Sandy shore in the night
Awaiting my love, my warrior king.

Intriguing. This piece is almost like a ballad, but it has a different rhythem than that. I love the way you told the story of the maiden waiting for him to come back and her desperate prayer for him to return home. I am not big on romantics, but I have feelings and know good writing when I see it. I salute you, writer...

Reading this poem, one feels the maiden's pain and concern, while waiting for her lover to return back from battle, in the era of King Arthur and Camelot. Referencing back to Celtic mythology and the important of the raven, as a messenger and harbinger of good/bad news. Adds to the poem's power of expressing these feeling to the reader. Thank you for sharing this romantic poem with us.
