I Am Scared

I Am Scared

A Poem by June
"

In this poem, I wanted to summarize in just a few lines what happens in domestic violence. It's not the physical pain that hurts, rather, it is the emotional betrayal that destroys a person.

"

Your eyes gaze into mine;

They burn me.

Your lips press against mine;

They poison me.

You caress my skin;

Your nails scrape me.

With one blow

You eradicate me.

I am not hurt;

Only dead.

My soul has disappeared-

Because of You.

Rather than focusing on the structure of the poem, I would much prefer readers to visualize what is happening to the victim as the person who is inflicting the pain attacks the victim, and to feel the same emotions the victim feels.

Thankyou for this descriptive poem, I was especially moved at your lines...I am not hurt; Only dead. I know what it feels like to have out of body experiences like that. Or at least, those were my own experiences of past events. I look forward to reading more of your work soon.
