I love Myself

I love Myself

A Poem by Karen Raquepo
"

The heroine of my being is me!

"
Is it sufficient...
to say "I love myself" when I actually don't?
Loving myself is...
an unconditional acceptance
of the one hundred percent being me.
I'm careful and attentive to my health
so, myself must be nurtured.
I definitely say I'm lovable.
There's an endless source of love within me!
I value myself ,I reach my ultimate goals in life.
I have my own desires, dreams, and illusions in life
when I'm down or when I reach things I want,
I would cast to myself and to God.
How do I love others,
if I don't love myself?
A self-love is the beginning of a good relationship.
And,so, as i do,to have you!
I have an abundance of self-love.And I share love!

I just read another writer's views on self love and asked myself if I loved my self and How do I know this. I reconize the love I have for others and have settled for less then what I give. It is go to know this must be ahealty quandary. Well written and expressed got me saying Ummmm!

Karen--Your poem touched me so much that I am not only saving it to favorites, I have it in my email and want to read it everyday. I read quite a few positive thinking books and your poem is a wonderful affirmation to safeguard our most precious property. I think it is beautiful to give credit to God here and every word you wrote is special and so meaningful. You made my night...I look forward to reading this tomorrow then!

Hello Karen! a good first read that could do with a little edit and re-looking at the punctuation here and there, but the basis of the poem is sound and about loving ones self and you are right, it isn't always easy because we all know we can do better and have done a lot worse! but, as long as we do our best at any given time and circumstance, and are open to being loved and loving others, we are on the right road. I really liked the way you scrutinise your loving nature....LLB

I like the questions you have brought up. I do think that I can see a couple of poems embedded in this one piece of work.

There is a great deal of good and bad in this poem. I think the main criticism I have is that really this doesn't feel like a poem, but more like a stream of consciousness or a bunch of thoughts you have in your head that you put down onto paper/electronic media.

That's not to say that I don't like the nature of this write. I like that you question yourself....you ask if it's sufficient to say you love yourself when you really don't, and that's a very interesting thought. I mean, so many of us KNOW that we're supposed to love ourselves and be comfortable with ourselves, but how many people can really say that for sure they DO love and believe in themselves? I also agree with one of the other reviewers that said they liked that you admit you have illusions about yourself and your life. It's so hard to admit our flaws and our illusions and be okay with them. Also, I think it is an interesting contradiction and an interesting point that I don't think many people think about that when you say you don't really love yourself, you then go on to say how can you love anyone else if you don't love yourself, but then you say you are filled with love for others. Perhaps it is not true, then, that one does NOT need to love themselves to love someone else. Hrrrrmmmm... :) Well, you've definitely got me thinking. Keep writing!

A very positive, stream of consciousness piece. It's nice to read something here that isn't bleak and hopeless. To improve this, I would actually edit out the first two lines and just start with "Loving myself is...". Also in this line "so, myself must be nurtured." Consider making my and self 2 words, I think it would be more effective that way. I really like the admittance that you have not only dreams, but illusions as well. Most people are afraid to admit that. With some slight revision, this could be a very good, very uplifting piece.

Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful thoughts. One cannot give what one does not have. Once you open your heart, there is nothing to share but love. I really like this work. We cannot love ourselves too much. That is not vanity as some might think. That is superficial, not love at all. In fact the vain are usually the most insecure. Self acceptance is more accurate, as you said. Great write. Cheers.
