The Catch in the WindA Poem by RapterjWhat we've so easily passed. What we've so easily missed. What is so hard to forget.Like the calm views of a grand vista. An open surrounding Of earth, and sky The fire pit of neatly shapen rocks The sillouhettes that formed above the sand And all of this was captured All but the wind.
The subtle air The presence The vibrant tone of this adventure is gone. Only the evidence remains. The rest is a memory.
Elsewhere, there are bright city lights. A bridge that towers Cars, people, change So much is happening And so much is lost. Again, see the sillohouettes...
And all of it has been captured All of it has been caught. Save the experience - it dies in memory. Like the catch in the wind.
And the brightest, the surest, some say, the best Of them all: Envious and deprived. Not lonely or alone. Not without or unhappy. Starving for something that can't be placed Something that can't be captured.
Life has changed them all so brilliantly. But life has changed so darkly The Envious would be jealous Emotion would split with rage. A subtle volcano of spite.
These friends, that have gone their own ways These others who have moved on.
Did Envy have the same chances? Did Envy have the same choices?
For Envy things went differently. No horizon for adventure. No lights from the city. No wealth, no prosperity. Only familly without love. It was hard. It was painful. Perhaps harder than the rest.
So many can just run away. It had no just reward for Envy. Ongoing punishment That bore an endless sentence. And the crime? Envy had no crime.
Where would they be? If captured or caught? Would they have enjoyed so much? The city they relished? The horizon they saw? These things were captured. The grandeur was lost, but the image the same.
Those sillouhettes Standing on the bridge Standing on the dune Standing before their city Standing before their horizon
Those sillohouettes With their catches, their captures, and lures Had their prize And for their great memories For all of the prizes that had come before
Had forgotten Envy
For Envy, there would be no capture. No catch in the wind. Envy was a curse - And be cursed until the end. © 2010 Rapterj |
