Fairweather

Fairweather

A Poem by Rapterj
"

Fans, friends, lovers, religions

"

Enveloped.
Disguised.
Removed.
Soon-to-be-forgotten.

Chalk one up for those of us
The few that lack fun.
Or boring by any other name.
Soon-to-be-forgotten.

Or soon-to-be-replaced.
Like we can't feel it.
Like we can't see it.

Second rate friends
Those fair-weather friends.
Who stick by when the going is good.
Or who flee at the sight of something better.

So, I'd give the usual rant
And maybe they'd stay for longer

The grass is greener
The world is brighter

But maybe this time
I'll just smile
When your bridge burns beneath you

And you f**k yourself halfway to the land of Oz.

Good job.
Fair weather friends.
Fair weather fans.
Fair weather religions.
Fair weather lovers.

So much for the love
For the getaway drivers.
So much for the love
Of the determined.

The true passions

The true believers.

Just saps who get used.

And beneath it all.
I have a heart.
I have feelings.
I have a soul.

The getaway driver
Who stands guard for them all.
Has none who guard him.
Has no vehicle waiting.

Just a restless insomnia
From too many nights waiting
Just listening for the call of duty
Or the beckoning of a friend-in-need.

Who will forget the favor by morning.

After all.  He'll be there for them again.

They'll just never be there for him.

And why should they?
Soon-to-be-forgotten.
He's just no f*****g fun.
