QuestA Poem by Ranjita Ghosh DasguptaMemories of
childhood Holding a
sack of bare essentials in one hand And in the
other, Holding you
father. Boarding the
obese-looking train That would
take us to our new home. In that new
city , you had said, We would be
free; My Quest for Freedom thus begun.
Memories of
adolescence Are filled
with struggle. Struggle to
make sense, Of
everything around me. Struggle to
fight for the rights Of myself
and of the people Of my
Nation. Singing
slogans, braving gunshots, Hiding in
the bushes, Sleeping in
the open; My Quest for Victory thus begun.
Memories of
manhood Fills my
heart With satisfaction
and pride Of achieving
every success Of taking
life in my stride.
Then there
was you With whom I
flew To places
new. Exploring, unearthing,
showcasing My newest
self Of which, so
far, I was unaware. Your love
made me realize My value,
and to value them who care.
My Quest for Love thus begun.
Memories of
your parting Are still
afresh, Every moment
you suffered, It had
pained deep in my flesh. I let you
go, for I know, You will be
happy, Safe and
free.
Life without
you will be difficult for sure, But with you
in my heart, I can tread
the path. For there is
certainly more to life, Which I am
yet to find. There will
be moments to treasure And reasons
to smile;
All other
quests being done, My Quest for Life has just begun. © 2014 Ranjita Ghosh Dasgupta |
