Present's Perfect

There are times when I am lonely,

There are times when I am sad.

There are times when I act silly,

There are times when I am mad.

 

There are times when I act smart,

There are times when I am low on confidence.

There are times when I shout at you,

There are times when I am silent.

 

There are times when I am used,

And you rebuke me for letting me be.

There are times when you teach me

About the worldly things

And life’s nitty gritty.

 

There are times when I become a child,

And you act as my parent.

You feed me, you caress me,

And I love it when our roles are reversed again.

 

There are times when you have your own issues at work,

Yet you do not bring them home.

You give me time, we make merry

And you go back to your problems alone.

 

I wish I could stop the time right here

In the present.

I don’t want to grow old,

Neither do I wish to leave you

Or live without you.

No, I do not wish to see

What my future has for me,

My present is just perfect.
