Parking Lot Fantasy
A Poem by R.D. Banks
Spontaneous
I saw you in the parking lot where I work | 1 |
and I walked off from my job to follow you, | 2 |
beautiful child of God with dark hair and even darker eyes. | 3 |
| |
I would follow you anywhere but I need to stop for gas. I'm on empty and no time left. | 4 |
I would follow you all the way home to where
your family lives, and where your uniquely complex life is, the life
that somehow goes on without me. | 5 |
We would walk right in holding hands and have dinner with your mom and dad and we would all smile and tell anecdotes and laugh. | 6 |
We would grow and change, | 7 |
one hand in the other, | 8 |
You and I could love one another | 9 |
Oh, Stranger that I want so badly to know. | 10 |
| |
But she drove off. | 11 |
So I blew her a kiss, and watched her as she
went, curiosity beaming and butterflies in my heart, sick, hungry,
desirous of anyone at that moment. |

I love the numbers on the sides that suggest 11 seconds worth of thoughts before she drives off. Great write. :)
