A Birthday Soliloquy

A Birthday Soliloquy

A Poem by Raj Sahu
"

The poet talks about his lover on the occasion of the latter's birthday in this loving soliloquy.

"

It's again a joyous day, October Thirty-First;
You descended eighteen summers ago on this Earth,
To bless its feet with your feet,
To quench the prolong thirst
Of Someone, whose life is full of the dearth
Of love and merriness, which would meet
Surely to the doom unless your birth
safeguarded it. That 'Someone' would burst
With delight and love if your love's heat
Will ignite his heart and make it a peat,
Which would burn for the sake of the worst,
Who keeps a little or no worth.

I confess before you that I am 'Mr. Someone'
And would drink hemlock if it tasted like you
And crown you the 'Conqueror' of my heart
And beg you not to depart
From my melancholy life as after 'Who'
Would be my life other than you? None!
You are the beauty of a delightful day,
But also the pain of a forlorn night.
Listen what the verses of Kierkegaard say:
"Life can only be understood backwards;
But it must be lived forwards"
And me, following this with all my might.

I create new memories to drop the old ones,
But you still find room in every new memory.
The clear stream of thought that runs
Make me sleep in the deepest reverie
And I imagine there that a human heart-
Cost in millions- I gave it to you for free.
So never, never and ever; O! You depart
But pour your love to bloom this withered tree.
O, what sufferings have I to bear
In inferno for not accepting you my paradise?
I don't keep this thought so near,
As this mere poet is not so wise!

To answer your question in authors notes -- your poem does not seem to have a regular pattern of rhyming, but your rhyming lines work well & are often enuf to feel the rhyming rhythm. I do not get the feeling that this poem has anything to do with someone's birthday. But that just means it's not a very well-chosen title. The poem itself is well done & interesting & creative. May I suggest: "Ode to My Lover" which reflects your message. The word "dearth" (scarcity) seems like a bad choice. But otherwise, you have written this with many interesting & poetic word choices. Good job of playing with font colors & using artwork to illustrate the feelings in your words (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Like your other pieces this is really nice.
"Life can only be understood backwards, but must be lived forwards" one of my best quotes and you used it perfectly.
It's lightly quaint and absorbing. It's an interesting read.
