IDENTITYA Poem by raj24IDENTITY
It hurts badly, it makes me
angry, It makes me helpless as I find
myself lost in you, All this while I tried to ask
myself who am I, A question I wish you could help
me answer.
We all look up to someone; we all
want to be like someone, But at no point we want to be
someone else, we want to be us, A person who stands for himself,
for his right, An identity that’s just his own,
the one he is proud of.
When we met, you helped me walk
through life, A learning phase, a phase that
helped me understand myself more, With each step, I walked on your
footsteps, You became a guiding force and I
felt I am blessed.
Soon we got married, sharing a
bond that started a new life, In your eyes, I could see myself, Reaching the dreams that made me
believe in myself more, But it all changed, you asked me
to take care of you, and you will handle the rest.
My smiles certainly hide the
pain, the agony, and tears that I felt, With every passing day, I could
see myself changing, Changing and becoming more like
you, Should I hate it or love it, I
had no answer, but deep inside I knew the truth.
In my girl, I found a new life,
but as she grew, I could see what was in her mind, I want to be a free soul maa,
want to fly high, not like you, My eyes hold on to their reply,
those tears had a story to share, But sometimes it’s not the words
that hurt you; it’s the truth that pains a lot.
I don’t have questions for you,
but I want to answer mine, You became my identity, and I
lost the fight without giving it a try, It’s fine to stand on someone’s
side, but can ever sky change his side just to see how the earth feels like, We all deserve our own spaces, a
place, and a name that we have earned, In the fight, we have to choose
our sides, but if you decide to stand with your enemy, you lose the fight, You can stand in someone’s shadow
for a while, not for life, waiting for him to give you some light, You need to find your own shadow.
It’s hard to confess, but it’s a
letter to the girl, who wishes to fly, Search your identity not in
other’s eyes, in your dreams, Drops of rain can melt in the
ocean and lose themselves, But an ocean can never take their
place because it’s they who individually fill it, each on its own.
