She Feels

She Feels

A Poem by Allison

She sees herself in the ornate looking glass,

Sees her icy blue lips,

Frozen from words that have since been lost.

She sees the pale sunlight reflect off her hair,

Sees it glimmer with gold,

Glowing with an intensity that proves archaic in age.

She hears the breathing of her body exhaling,

Leaving a trail of white,

Smokey and cold, revealing the ignorance on her tongue.

She hears the voice inside her head,

Hears it scream insults at her eyes,

It tells her the lies she only believes with no consideration.

And she feels…

She feels the contrastingly warm tears slide down her cheek,

Numbing strips of her flushed skin,

Creating an illusion that merely disguises her from herself.

A disguise that she refuses to remove.

She can taste the poison on her tongue,

Searing the inside of her mouth,

Leaving nothing but blood to drip from the creases of her lips.

She can see herself.

She can hear the lies she sees.

Feeling the pain of what she hears,

Tasting the pain of poison on her lips.

And she cries…

Cries not for what she doesn’t have…

But for what she does.
