PrologueA Chapter by Rain-Remember
Prologue She never realized how painful it can be to remember. The human consciousness is a funny thing. It had the capability to bury a memory so thoroughly it was as though it had never happened. And yet, it was also capable of remembering something so vividly that the emotions that came along with it was as sharp as before. It all depends on whether it wants to. She remembered his questioning, puzzled face, and could hardly believe that “he” was able to tamper with his counter-part’s memory with such finesse that he didn’t even question or suspect the gaps in his memory. Right before her, her friend closed his eyes momentarily and opened again gleaming like a predator eyeing his prey. “Well, well, well, I would say that is a good job done there.” He applauded slowly and sauntered over to her. “You did hell of a job tonight, hurting him.” She glared silently, waiting for him to finish his words. “For a moment there, I thought I wouldn’t be able to dominate tonight.” He drawled with deep satisfaction. “And you, despite giving him that short moment of pure happiness, had to snub your own toe by pushing him away at the very last moment.” “I almost thought I had to erase his entire memory tonight, but thanks to you!” His brown eyes flashed with excitement, triumph and sadist pleasure. “I can torture him with that painful moment!” Her voice quivered lightly as she tried to control the white-hot anger within her. “What are you going to do with that memory?” “I will amplify the pain he felt for that one moment and make sure he lives with that pain every, single, time he sees you.” His words knifed into her heart, as he continued to gloat of “his” victory over her mistakes in this psychological battle. At the back of her mind, a voice forced her to stand tall, to look into those eyes of ice, not to kneel before him in a desperate attempt for “him” to spare the friend she cared for. Suddenly, she wasn’t feeling the empathy and sympathy she had felt when “he” first emerged that night. She felt the anger surge through her veins, freezing her emotions like the harsh winter freezing the streams, strengthening her, as she straightened up and faced “him” in the eyes. “She”, was ready. *~*~* © 2008 Rain-RememberReviews
