I want to make eye contact with your past while kissing at your present with intent to hold hands with your future, Allow me to love you…. Metaphorically? Stumbling through your spirit Falling in love with what lies within hoping I can dwell internally. Let me inhale your intelligence, and caress your character exposing your morals and beliefs, Showing me no fake ripple reflection, just the authenticity of you. Will you let me love you… Metaphorically? Allowing me to drift into your logic and size-up your thoughts and reasoning Embracing tenderly your pride, Admiring the heart of your courage, Inhaling the spirit of your strength. I’d gladly drown in your sea of tears, while throwing you a lifeline attached to love Saving you, while saving myself. Can I love you…. Metaphorically? Let me remove your shell of pain as we soak in desire together bathing in the essence of you and I, washing away the worries of this world. I will never leave you alone.... when your heart is empty and at its lowest My LOVE will intervene! For life‘s heartaches are easier to bare... with you. Let me renew your mind and soul and ignite the light in you once again, with the presence of Faith ....but only if you Let me love you… Metaphorically..
Such a sweet poem. I think we all start to love in the metaphorical mind. We see love as a symbol of what we want. Only after we flush out its true meaning do we accept true love. I loved this poem and the word play. I enjoyed its meaning. Thank you for sharing it.

even though the speaker is asking to love metaphorically..what follows in the poem represents real love.
it is so much more than the physical...that's great...but loving the person inside as well as out....loving the mind, spirit, heart...
all of that...it is real love...so wonderfully expressed by your words.

A very beautiful piece. I think this is the most emotionally and spiritually powerful poem of yours that I have read thus far. It's the softness of a woman holding out her hand and opening her heart to the hardness that surrounds a man, hardness shaped by this cruel world.
