this poem is about the long process that my husband and I have been going through to be able to have a child of our own, while watching what seems like EVERYONE having children.

The Waiting Room

I sit here waiting in this room

For my life to be complete

When will I receive my call

To leave this lonely seat

Every time the door opens

And I hear the hinges whine

I look up only to find

That it’s someone else’s time

So much love to give away

But struggling with frustration

Soon it’ll be our time…

But I’m running out of patience

Surrounded by friends & family

Yet, tired of being alone

When can I cradle a child

That I can call my own?

I can see where this is going, and the poem carries a bit of emotion with it. A couple pointers:

If it were me, I would give up the four-line rhyme scheme and begin to describe the room - the walls, the smells, what the air tastes like or feels like on your skin. That adds depth to the poem, especially if you come up with creative ways to convey emotion through the state of the room.

Like I said, the limitations you gave yourself limit the poem. Broaden the lines and I think it will flow better.

So, some simple pointers that might help in the future. Keep working on it and the emotion will become even stronger. :)
