The Greatest Sin

The Greatest Sin

A Poem by Rebecca Ann Englehart

“The Greatest Sin”

15 April 2000

They tell me that I’m dreaming

That I’ll never be with a man like you

Some people think they know it all

But they don’t know my love is true

I’d give up everything to be with you

Give up everything I’ve worked for

To spend forever by your side

There’s nothing I want more

BRIDGE

They just don’t understand

The way you’ve touched my soul

The way you make me feel inside

It makes me lose control

CHORUS

My heart beats faster

When I know you’re near

The silence overwhelms me

Your breath is all I hear

And when we finally reach that point

When my skin touches yours

It makes me cry out inside

There’s something craving more

I’m not sure how to handle

This emotion I hold within

But if the way I feel is wrong

Then I’ve committed the greatest sin

They tell me I should let you go

But they don’t know the way I feel

They tell me I’m just dreaming

But baby you never felt so real

They say someday I’ll face the truth

And I’ll have to let you go

True love does not exist to them

..but if they only knew what I know

REPEAT BRIDGE

REPEAT CHORUS

I hope that they will see one day

The strength you have given to me

Until that day I have no choice

But to love you in secrecy

REPEAT CHORUS
