As Far Beneath Hades As Heaven Is Above Earth

As Far Beneath Hades As Heaven Is Above Earth

A Poem by Rae Newsome

In your absence, I found despair.

My shattered heart stopped beating.

It grew cold.

Death and decay ran rampant.

The sun couldn't offer warmth.

Earth stopped spinning.

I couldn't remember how to move.

I traveled the River Styx.

Charon was my guide, pointing out the sights.

Torment.

Chaos.

Destruction.

It became my life.

My lungs constricted, squeezing painfully from the toxins that filled me.

Tartarus loomed before me.

A barbaric wasteland.

Tragic moans escaped me.

Skin being ripped from my bones where Hades kept me.
