The LightA Story by rachylouBit strange
I woke up to the sea lapping against my feet and the sound of waves crashing against the beach. The sun was shining down on me and I led there absorbing the warmth. Sharply I sat up “Where am I?” I said to myself. I tried to get up. As hard as I tried I couldn’t seem to move my left leg, I fell back on my back in desperation. I suddenly became aware of a terrible pain across my forehead; I put my hand to my head to find a deep cut travelling down half of my forehead. When I brought my hand away it was dripping with blood. I had never been very good around blood, suddenly everything went black. I had passed out.
When I woke I put my hand to my aching head again, to find it had been bandaged with a combination of leaves and grass. I looked around the beach again except I wasn’t on the beach; I was in the forest, propped up against a tree. Someone had moved me and bandaged my head. Who? I had regained most of the feeling in my leg and was able to limp around. My head still hurt a lot and I thought I still had a concussion. I started exploring and I found, after a long and tiring journey, a pond. The pond seemed to be singing and without knowing what I was doing I seemed to gravitate towards it. It was an unnatural blue green colour and the pond and the trees and bushes around it seemed to sparkle. I heard a rustling sound behind me but I carried on moving forward, as if in some sort of trance. The bottom of my foot touches to water and on contact with the water pain shot through my body. I couldn’t stop I walked deeper and deeper into the water and became more and move in pain. My head went under the water and I couldn’t breath, but I couldn’t stop, my legs were not under my command anymore. I could now see what I seemed to be travelling towards; it was a glowing light with ribbons coming off it. Wrapped in the ribbons was….humans. There eyes wide open and extremely pale. The light was sucking the life out of them. I tried to scream but no sound would escape my mouth, I was going to die. I heard a splash above me and something smashed into the side of me forcing me to move away from the light. It kept pushing me until I was out of the water and at least 100m away from it. I collapsed my weak legs were unable to hold my weight. I looked up to see what saved me and standing a few feet away was a man staring at me curiously. He was covered with blisters, I was wondering how he had got them when I realised I was covered with them too. I was about to scream when he shot forward like a lightning bolt and covered my mouth with his hand, then he spoke to me very fast “Run! Get out of here! It’s not safe! On the beach there is a boat, run there and don’t look back.” I didn’t wait to hear anymore. I ran as fast as I could with my bad leg and didn’t stop or turn around even when I heard screams behind me. I got on the boat and rowed away from the island. I never told anyone about this. I tried never to think about it myself; sometimes I remember it and think about the man who saved my life and what happened to him. Even 10 years later I have no idea what happened and how I got there I guess I will never know. © 2012 rachylouReviews
