Oxygen

Oxygen

A Poem by rachielle

Akin to the oxygen I draw in,

You are a necessity

I need to survive.

And I thought I was yours, too;

But you failed me.

I needed you there-

The wisp of fresh air

In a world of smoke and ashes;

But you left me choking on

Puffs of venom into my chest.

Now I can’t breathe.

I’m inhaling what is left of you

But you’re out of reach.

I could have sworn you’d die for me,

But now I’m in between life and death

And you could not even spare me

A moment of breath.

Still, you’re the last thought in my head

As I take in what I can-

Dying a martyr,

Gasping for air;

Only to realize that what I’d always believed in

Was never there.

This sounds spiritual in nature to me. As if one is questioning their own faith. I like the metaphor of breathing in oxygen. Nicely done!

I like it! :) The image/metaphor of oxygen was thoroughly expounded on! Cheers for this one!

Really, three poems in a day? Haha!
Anyway, the emotions here are raw, freshly picked from the heart's garden. You painted here an unfair relationship. Sometimes we believe in 'the right one'. Little do we know that there is no 'right one'. There is only 'the one'.

My favorite line:
Now I can’t breathe.
I’m inhaling what is left of you

I'm glad you're finding time to write again!
Hope to read more Rach. :)
