Nine Hours of RainA Poem by rachielleThis is based on the tragic flood that happened in our country just a few weeks ago.Water, water everywhere- I see people swimming in mud, Trying to survive with sweat and blood; Will I help out? I go forward, then I doubt. Why should I sacrifice When the government doesn't even suffice? They see people dying But people won't see them caring. Instead, they party at night; So if THEY don't care, why should I? Water, water everywhere- I see it outside, will I care? If not me, who will then? I know I can't rely on THEM. What will happen to bright-eyed kids Scattered all over, like seeds Waiting to grow? Should I be the one to plow? Yes, it's clear. I should go Be their so-called little hero. I pack bags of food and clothes, Go to submerged areas on paid-for boats. I give people what I packed- From their faces I knew I'd be back To carry corpses drowned in flood And watch the water turn to blood I know their families' tears won't dry- I see their hearts' never-ending cries. I am so fortunate, I realize. Fortunate-with everything to gain. Just watching this tragedy from my window pane. Water, water everywhere- I see it outside, I SHOULD CARE. (Because THEY don't.) © 2009 rachielleReviews
