You went away

For a year

And a day,

You made us so proud!

 

But now you return

In a box

Cover by a union jack cloth

And on the streets

The people weep

 

For another soldier

Has died at war.

the inspiration came from my friend who is joining the army

Blunt is not the term I'd use to describe this. As SoulCrusader mentioned, it hits the reader quickly with the point. And that's a great thing, since sometimes peeeeeoooppplleee tttaaakkkee ffffoorreeevveerr tttooooo ggggeeettt ttttooo ttttheee poooiiiinttt. ;3
