The Royal Poet Laureate

The Royal Poet Laureate

A Poem by Rachel M. Benson

The Royal Poet Laureate

Cry of thunder roar of war
The brotherhood is pounding down the door
Stampeding through the streets
Banners and trumpets sounding of brave feats
White knights with swords held high
Battle cries fire filling the skies
Fools write riddles of kings’ minds
Queens wither with the aging of time
Courtiers surround the royalty
Truths are lies, lies are truths morally
The land filled with heartache and disease
Battles won wars ended the brotherhood stands
The eye of the poet and the mouth of a saint,
Intrigues of the court of brothers leaves the poet faint.
