The Perfectionist

The Perfectionist

A Poem by Rachelle
"

A poem about perfectionism

"

You laugh at jokes.

You laugh at silly comedies.

You laugh when I tickle you.

But for some reason, you can’t laugh at yourself.

You strive for perfection even though you know it is unattainable.

You are unsatisfied with good;

It’s just not good enough.

You try so hard that you can’t joke with yourself anymore.

You take all your actions and criticize yourself severely.

If you get 99% on an exam you ask yourself why it couldn’t be 100%.

Your stamina is incredible.

You spend hours practicing all your activities everyday until you collapse in exhaustion on your bed.

Yet, you seem pleased with this life because you live with purpose.

You’re always trying to be Faster, Stronger, Smarter, and Better.

Just remember to breath, and laugh at yourself.

Because learning to laugh at yourself is self acceptance,

And self-acceptance is one of the greatest accomplishments.
