(Rediscovered) Lost Lover

(Rediscovered) Lost Lover

A Poem by Rachel Landes

As If
The visual
Of hallucinations
Are the reluctance of mind
To meet matter
As if the loss
Of sight once found
Is the abolishment of what once was
And am I seeing you again
My long lost lover
Of the psychopathic form
Who makes as if
Thought is a myth
Who sentences real to the unreal
And the unreal to true form

Rachel, I am being honest - I think I may have found a new favorite poet here!! Although the title of the poem is "(Rediscovered) Lost Lover," I get the sense that there is more to this work than just a "physical" lover.

When you say:

"As If
The Visual
Of hallucinations
Are the reluctance of mind
To meet matter,"

I feel as though you're speaking from the perspective of one who has discovered ultimate reality within oneself (you, perhaps). And the "lover" of whom you speak is such a part of your past, now, that he seems to be an illusion.

It sounds as if you've reached a state of inner peace (whatever you may choose to call it), and yet, within this work, you're revisiting a time in which you hadn't gained that knowledge yet.

But what's so intriguing about it is that this encounter seems to make you question what's reality and what isn't...what is the true nature of being, and what is just illusion? I think your poem has sparked this within me as well. I appreciate the reminder!
