John Vs Smith (II)

John Vs Smith (II)

A Poem by Rachel Landes
"

Lost now found

"

Brogues with brown skin

Shirt buttoned to the collar

Leather jacket with smooth lines

And smell

Back home

In your arms

And we dare not breathe

Or talk

Too loud

In case we break this

And so we tiptoe

To the couch

And hold

And kiss

Gently

Like we are touching glass

And we are broken angels

with broken wings

How did this happen again

On a plastic couch with windowed walls

With our curving bodies

And breaking souls

Wrapped

Like coupled wires

Since when does she cry

When you kiss her

Since when do tears

Leak like skies

Your touch is Sellotape

On a soul

Unstitched

And we are gods

In a godless world

Shut out of heaven

And diving underground

And soon

When freedom

Loses

This battle

Of love versus fear

We can hold eyes and hands

And watch the world

Disappear
