Lullaby

Lullaby

A Poem by Rachel Landes

Night is like a gentle cloak

Kissing me goodnight

Wrapping me

In its blanket

Night is like a warrior’s speech

Softening the blow

And bows

With answers

And you are the answer

To the world’s question

And you are the leader

Of your own battle

Battling

Your own

Demons

And fighting your need

To fight

Peace

Should be said in place of please

And pleas

Should be said instead of pleasure

Desperate people

Trying to feel

Empty void filled

With emptiness

The double negative

Is still not positive

The character

Still

Does not have character

Kiss goodnight

Snuggle up tight

Wake up to a white world

Gone white

Darkest night

Is now known as light

Make me up in a world

Of night

Try to try

Be anything be anyone

Boxes broken

Life tumbles

Crashes

Burn

Boxes

Break boxes

Bash boxes

Build your own box

Write your own labels

Kill the mindkiller

Fear dies

And dawn breaks

But I

Will never be

broken
